9-34 Upgrading Your Server

Removal

Remove the DIMM using the following procedure.

NOTE: To remove the failed DIMM, check the error message

appearing in POST or NEC ESMPRO to identify the DIMM socket

(group) in which the failed DIMM is installed.

16. See page 9-4 to prepare.

17. Pull out the server from the rack (as described on page 9-4).

18. Remove the drive cover and logic cover (as described on page 9-25).

19. Remove the riser card (as described on page 9-51).

20. Remove the four support bar screws, and then remove the support bar (as described in the

Attachment procedure).

21. Lift the processor duct to remove it (as described in the Attachment procedure).

22. Open the clips at each end of the socket from which you remove the DIMM.

The DIMM pops out of the socket.

23. Hold the DIMM by the edges, lift it away from the socket, and store it in an anti-static

package.

24. Reinstall all parts removed in Steps 3 to 7.

25. Power on the server and verify that POST displays no error messages.

If POST displays an error message, take a note on the message and see the POST error

messages listed on page 8-10.

26. Run the BIOS SETUP utility and select [Advanced] → [Memory Configuration] →

[Memory Retest] → [Enabled] to clear the error information of the removed DIMM. (See

page 4-12 for details.)

This setting is required to update the hardware configuration information. See page 4-15

for details.
